A First Look at Regions, With ETS2 and ATS on the Way

I'm working on Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator support. Here's a first look at Regions, a way to plan a bigger map one project at a time.

The Continental Map Region around Würzburg, with a 20 by 20 grid, 65 completed tiles and 31 skipped tiles.

Hey guys!

If you've been waiting for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator, here's the official confirmation: I'm working on support for both. The goal is to let you create continuous maps from real places. Regions are a first look at how you'll organize that work.

Games like ETS2 and ATS divide their huge worlds into connected sectors. A long drive needs more than one small map, but trying to edit an entire country as one project sounds like a very effective way to never finish it.

A Region puts neighboring map projects into a fixed geographic grid. Choose a location, tile size and grid, then decide where to start. A 20 by 20 grid gives you 400 tiles to plan around, without creating 400 projects at once.

Each tile can hold its own ordinary MapToPlay project. You'll create and edit the parts you need, while the Region keeps their locations together on one map. Empty tiles stay empty until you choose to work on them. You can also add rows or columns around the edges without moving the projects already there.

Select a tile to open its project or start a new one. Mark tiles To do, Completed or Skipped to keep track of your progress. Those marks are your planning notes, separate from whether a project is ready.

Regions aren't available yet, and ETS2 and ATS support is still in development. This is a preview of the planning tools, not a finished game export or a promise of a release date.

Get ready for the release: think about the places and routes you'd like to build, and tell me which one you'd start with. I have a feeling the map is going to need a few more tiles.

Cheers!
