Tunnels, railway crossings, blood and sweat
Tunnels and railway crossings now work in the ETS2 export. The hard part is behind me. I'm polishing the last rough edges.
Hey guys!
The Euro Truck Simulator 2 saga continues. New in the MapToPlay Editor: tunnels and railway crossings. Both are supported in the ETS2 export and already working.
Railways and bridges, including railway bridges, were already in the Editor. Those work in the ETS2 export too.
I've been driving around the test map again. Through tunnels, over bridges, past forests. Here are a few shots from those tests.
This is taking much longer than I expected. I thought I had a fairly good idea of the work involved. That estimate has aged badly.
In ETS2, terrain isn't one big heightmap. It's thousands of separate pieces that have to fit together. There are also tight limits on how many objects can be in view and how many pieces one model file can hold. A road, a forest and a mountain all have to fit inside those budgets. Getting something to look right is one job. Getting it to fit is another.
The hard part is behind me now. I'm polishing the last rough edges. It's been a longer fight than I expected, but I'm finally at that stage.
Next up is American Truck Simulator. I hope it works the same way, so I can reuse what I've learned and most of the code.
