Increasing Limits on the Basic Tier
Basic tasks can now run for up to 60 minutes, with 120 minutes of processing available across a rolling 24 hour window.
Hey guys.
I am coming to you with some genuinely good news. I have doubled two of the processing limits on the Basic tier.
From the beginning, MapToPlay, and maps4fs before it, was built around one simple idea: anyone should have a way to create their own map. Completely free, with no paywall waiting at the export button. That is about as close as I have to a mission statement, and I have kept that promise.
The difficult part is that huge maps need a lot of real processing. Task Units help share that capacity fairly, and Basic has two additional safeguards: how long one task may run and how much processing a team may use within a rolling 24 hour window.
Until now, one Basic task could run for 30 minutes, and a Basic team had 60 minutes of processing in that rolling window. Those limits are now 60 minutes for one task and 120 minutes across the rolling 24 hours.
That gives larger jobs more room to finish and gives people more room to experiment. Large maps are still extremely talented at finding the limits of hardware, so I will watch the server load closely. I may adjust these limits again if keeping MapToPlay reliable for everyone requires it. This is an increase, not a promise that the numbers can never change.
And I want to be very clear about why I can do this. Patreon supporters make it possible. Yes, it sounds a little dramatic written down, but it is literally true. Their support gives me room to provide more free processing to people who may never pay anything.
When you support MapToPlay, you get your own listed benefits. But you are also helping someone else create their first map. You are supporting this community, not only me. I see that clearly, I appreciate it more than I can properly put into a pricing table, and I want everyone else to see it too.
So to every supporter: thank you. Part of what you are paying for just became more room for everyone.
