No Paid Mod Marketplace on MapToPlay
MapToPlay will not host paid modding services or paid map commissions. Mods and Atlas downloads will remain free.
Hey guys.
You keep asking whether MapToPlay could have a modder marketplace. I understand why. Someone wants a great custom map or another mod but does not have the skills to make it. Someone else has those skills, has spent years learning them, and understandably does not want to work for free.
That pressure made me think seriously about how it could work. Some time ago I read the GIANTS Terms of Use. They say mods must be made available free of charge and not for gain, and that commercial use or use in return for payment is not permitted without GIANTS' consent. In plain words, the answer for MapToPlay is no.
GIANTS reminded its Discord community about this today. It made me realize that I had never answered you clearly. I kept saying I would check. Well, I checked. Quite thoroughly, because apparently a simple no needs research when I am involved.
This is not criticism of GIANTS. Quite the opposite. Their tools, tutorials, ModHub testing, console support, and rewards for ModHub creators are an unusually strong commitment to modding. Keeping mods free helps protect that community, and I respect the decision.
So here is the clear answer: MapToPlay will not host paid modding services, paid map commissions, a modder marketplace, or any similar system. MapToPlay supports other games too, but this will be one rule for all of them.
That fits the basic idea of MapToPlay. You can create, edit, process, and export your own map without paying for the export. Supporter tiers add more storage, processing capacity, retention, and other clearly listed benefits. They do not put your own map behind a payment.
Atlas follows the same rule. Every map published there is free to download. There will be no paid download gate and no paid mod service attached to it.
I should have given you this answer sooner. Now it is clear.
