The Person Behind Maps4FS and MapToPlay
I finally wrote down the real story behind Maps4FS and MapToPlay, including the parts that never belonged in a cheerful tutorial.
Hey guys.
If you ever wondered what is behind Maps4FS or MapToPlay, I finally wrote it down.
Most of the time you see me in tutorials, smiling while I talk about map creation. That is a real part of me. It is not the whole person behind the screen.
This is the long version. The rough beginning. The notebook where I calculated coordinates by hand because I did not know the right tools yet. The broken maps, the people who helped, the rewrites, and the moments when this project became the safest place I had.
It is a long read, and there is no new button to learn or exporter to test at the end. So reading it is completely up to you. But if you want to know the real person behind Maps4FS and MapToPlay, this is probably the most honest answer I can give.
At some point while writing it, I realized I was also writing it for myself. I think I needed to finally say some things out loud instead of packing them into another late night commit and moving on.
Maybe Maps4FS saved hours of your life by automating work you would otherwise do by hand. At the same time, building it was saving me. It gave me something to hold on to when other parts of my life were falling apart.
That is a difficult sentence for me to publish. Maybe that is exactly why I should.
Thank you for being part of this story.
Stan, Developer of MapToPlay
