Roads, Bridges and Traffic
Turn road lines into driving surfaces, build bridges and junctions, and configure lanes for AI traffic.

Set the road width
Select a road line in Objects and apply Buffer. Its radius is half the full road width: a radius of 4 meters produces an 8-meter road.
Inspect imported road lines before construction. Correct sharp corners, missing links and crossings that should be separated by height. Imported OSM lines do not become constructed roads until you assign them.
Prepare ground-level roadbeds
Apply Roadbed to buffered road lines where the terrain needs smoothing. Inspect the grade and road edges before adding the surface.
Use gentle changes in slope at junctions and bridge approaches. Export clears terrain that protrudes through road surfaces. Sculpt the surrounding banks and inspect the clearance beneath raised roads.
Construct surfaces and lanes
Choose Road (7), select the road and open Road Constructor. Choose a BeamNG.drive Roads collection, a surface and repeat length. Add lanes, dividers and markings as needed.
Use the Road tool to adjust lane additions, islands and junction slots. Review connections at close range, especially where a narrow road joins a wider one. Check directional markings from the driver’s approach. Assign Zebra crossing to pedestrian crossing slots; its bars run in the driving direction and repeat across the road width.
Saved road construction is included when you export. There is no additional road export switch.
Build bridges
Use the Road tool to create a raised profile and shape its approaches. Apply Bridge Constructor to add the deck, pillars and abutments.
A raised road profile alone does not add supporting structures. Check the deck edges, support positions and clearance under the bridge. Keep pillars away from lower roads and give ramps enough length for a smooth climb.
Configure AI traffic
In Road Constructor, set each traffic lane to Forward or Reverse. Directions follow the road line. Leave a lane Unset when it should carry no AI traffic; signs and painted arrows do not set lane directions.
Connect routes through junctions and give vehicles enough room to turn. Review both directions around roundabouts and across interchanges. Read export warnings if a turn or disconnected route is omitted, then correct the layout and export again.
In BeamNG.drive Free Roam, use the game’s traffic controls to spawn vehicles. The exported map does not spawn traffic automatically. Keep fences, buildings and other obstacles out of the carriageway. Functional traffic signals and sign-controlled rules are not configured in MapToPlay.
Place road signs
With Road (7) active, open Collections → Road Furniture. Select a junction, island or lane addition and click one of its furniture circles. Choose Signs and select a model.
Select the placed sign to adjust its position and rotation. Check which approach sees its front. Signs on raised road features follow the supporting road height.
Fit guardrails
Choose Guardrails and click two points on a purple roadside placement line. Select a family, then choose Apply guardrail. The selected run must be at least 4 meters long.
Review rails and end caps at curves, widened sections, junction openings and bridge ends. To change a run, select it and move an endpoint sphere, then apply the change. Use Remove guardrail to delete it.
Guardrails are solid, static scenery. They do not bend or break on impact.
